I have thought about whether I am an introvert vs. extrovert many times! I have taken many quizzes to find out, but the truth is that I fall somewhere in the middle! I would say that I am slightly more introverted than extroverted because I do love spending time in my head thinking and spending time alone. When I am in a large group, I often hold back from speaking. There are many times I would rather stay home alone than hang out with a group of people, but I find that when I do end up going out, I usually enjoy it and tend to be energized by it! However, that energy only lasts for the moments I am with people as I still need the time to recharge alone. When I am 100% comfortable in a group of people, I don't stop talking. In my family, I often get teased for how much I talk. I have also found myself secretly staying away from outgoing extroverts in fear of the unpredictability of what they may announce loudly. This is a good reminder of how I should deal with these different traits in my classroom. Many times, I set up the seating arrangements with an introvert near an extrovert to help with volume control. The problem with this is that I may be giving introverts anxiety because of the unpredictability or the feeling they need to force themselves to talk. I would never know because they would be the last ones to tell me that they do not feel comfortable. As a teacher, I am going to give my students more options to help them decide how they work best. I am also going to give students more "think time".
