Today I met with Brooke, a new 5th-grade student teacher in our elementary school. Brooke is a nontraditional student. She was in her third year of college for radio broadcasting when she decided that she wanted to be a teacher. Like me, Brooke decided that she wanted to become a teacher to make a difference! Becoming a radio broadcaster didn't allow her to truly help shape the future the way she intends to. Brooke has received a lot of support from her parents and husband throughout her journey.
Brooke and I both have had teachers in our lives who have inspired us. These teachers made us feel safe, seen, and loved. Our hope is that each and every student will feel this way when they enter our classrooms.
